Baby growth info for this week:
By now, your baby weighs a full half-ounce and is about the size of a large plum. Most of his systems are in place, though there's still plenty of maturing to do. For one thing, his fetal digestive system is beginning to practice contraction movements necessary for eating, and his bone marrow is busy making white blood cells — weapons against germs once he's out of your safe haven. The pituitary gland (at the base of the brain) has started producing the hormones that'll enable him (or her) to make babies of his (or her) own in a couple of decades or so.
We've got less than 30 weeks left. The first trimester is nearly over. And for the first time in several weeks I'm beginning to feel more human. Morning sickness is still affecting me but not with the same constancy and intensity as before. I'm hoping in another week or two it'll be totally non-existent.
My bleeding has also seemed to subsided. It's been about 12 days since I last bled. I hope it will not become an issue again. I'm still experiencing bad cramping from time to time, but it seems fewer and farther between episodes.
We have an ultrasound on Friday and this will be the first appointment for the baby that my husband has been able to attend. We are both looking forward to it.
